WYOMING – The public comment period is now open for the Dell Creek and Forest Park Power Land Long-Term Special Use Permit. The Bridger-Teton National Forest will prepare the environmental impact statement.

The SIA will analyze winter elk management activities that the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission has proposed for Forest Park Feedground in Lincoln County, Wyoming near Afton, and for Dell Creek Feedground in Sublette County near of Bondurant, Wyoming.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission (WGFC) has requested the continued use of facilities on National Forest System lands to conduct its elk management activities, including providing hay to overwintering elk at Dell Creek feeding grounds. and Forest Park between mid-November and late April. . The Forest Service will determine whether to permit the requested long-term use and, if so, under what conditions.

The project proposes to allow the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission to use National Forest System lands for their winter elk feeding operations to maintain population goals and control elk distribution for the purpose of minimize conflicts with human land uses.

“The proposed action will be considered with an alternative that phase out the feed,” said Tricia O’Connor, forestry supervisor for the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

A 30-day comment period began yesterday, January 14. Additional details regarding the proposed project have been posted on the Bridger-Teton National Forest website.

“Listening to the public during the comment period is crucial to the planning effort,” O’Connor said. “Public feedback will also be essential to be included in the relevant design features of the action and proposed alternatives – the next step in the process.”
