CHARLES TOWN – Potomac Valley Audubon Society is recruiting for two full-time, 6-month AmeriCorps positions beginning in March 2022 and continuing through the end of August. One will focus on the implementation of PVAS’ educational programs for young people, and the other will focus on conservation initiatives and land management in the four nature reserves of PVAS.

The environmental education station will provide nature experiences for youth in West Virginia’s Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan counties. Audiences may include children ages 2-18 from schools, library programs, preschool programs, summer day camps, homeschool groups, nature birthday parties and other youth agencies as well as family groups. The goal of our programs is to foster an understanding of nature and our connection to it. We strive to help children develop a deep and meaningful connection with the natural world that will lead to a desire to take action to conserve and protect it.

The AmeriCorps Lands Management and Conservation Member will assist the Lands and Conservation Manager in maintaining PVAS’s four nature preserves in the Eastern Panhandle and assisting with the organization’s various conservation projects such as promoting pollinators, monarch butterflies, native plants and other initiatives. This is a great hands-on experience for people interested in conservation, ecology, and habitat management.
